190 setup question on top end speed

I bought a 190 with a 200 optimax recently. Its got a 25 pitch tempest and 10 inch jake plate. I can hit right at 70 gps by myself and 67 with two people and that is with me hitting the rev limit and the boat not really out of the water all the way. Is this about what I can expect out of the boat or can I get some more. Been thinking about changing prop. Any help would be appreciated.

The boat should run low to mid 70s with 2 people. Set your propshaft height at 1.5in. below and try it again. If it doesn't run right, try another prop.

I have the same idetical boat with the same problem if you get a fix please let me know.

I have a 96 202dc running 82mph (Certified gps) with a 200 mercury carb and a 25 tempest prop . My engine has had some work but I can assure you it's no stronger than a new 225. You should play with your engine height. My boat runs best at 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the pad with a 12 inch jackplate. Be careful not to overheat it!!! I do have a Bob's nosecone low water pickup!!
