Anyone run a 25" shaft on a 2220? I am looking at repowering and I am currently running a 20" shaft.

I just purchased a 2220 fisherman 2008 model with a Z200 HPDI 25" foot. The engine is still in the break in period but during the 10 hour break in peroid the yamaha manuf. wants you to WOT for a min. During that period a got her up to 5700 rpm's with full tank of fuel,fishing gear. trolling motor and battery's one person. GPS 57mph. Condition were light chop running with wind.Yamaha prop 13 3/4" 21P. Boat gets on plain at 2700 rpm's. hole shot is great. I was worried about getting the small block 200. but I'm glad I did, I had heard bad things about the VMax big blocks. After test driving with the small block a was sold on the Z200 HPDI . Also, the boat cruses well at 4000 rpms, about 37 to 40 mph depending on condition. Hope this info. helps.

Thanks for the info Rorgero. I have been told by some dealers that a 25" shaft won't work on a Blazer hull due to the transom height. They are saying I'd have to run the jack plate high the entire time and the mounting wouldn't look good. Is this true? Anyone else have info to share on this? What are Blazer boats coming standard with these days? Thanks.

That is a great motor, I have had mine for a couple of years. I only have 73 hours on her, due to work. The only problem I had is the prop keeps spining hubs. I had a 4 blade prop. I put a 3 blade this time. I will see how she runs.Is your prop a 4 blade prop? and what make is it?

The standared Blazer set-up is whatever the customer wants. You can run either a 20" or 25" shaft on the 2220 Fisherman or the 2220 Professional. We sell them both ways.

We usually recommend that if you are not interested in going super shallow and typically do not attempt to run in water less than 2 feet that you run the 25" shaft. If you like shallow water mostly then you should run the 20" shaft.

The only problem with the 20" is that there are conditions where you can experiance some cavitation issues.

To me, the best set-up for every day use is the 25" with a 10" Bob's hyd. jack plate. You mount the engine all the way up on the plate so you can either run shallow or drop the plate down for heavy seas.

As for the look of the motor on the hull of the boat, I think it looks great. When the boat came in and as they were unloading it from the truck the dealer said 3 people stopped to buy it. The motor is not mounted that high. When I'm running or taking the plane I set the motor height at 1 to 2 inches. the 10" hydra. jack plate is a must. As for the dealers saying they had problems with the 25", I had dealers tell me they had problems with the 20" (cavitation problems while running and taking turns).I wouldn't worry about getting the 25"foot. If I had to purchase another blazer i wouldn't change a thing.
Also,on my first posting on performance with one person I have a performance posting with 2 to 3 people. WOT 52 to 54 MPH on gps. depending on wind and sea condition. Boat still has great hole shot 2 to 3 people in boat with gear. Boat cruses well at 36 to 39 mph at 4200rpm's with 2 to 3 people and gear.Don't like to run over 4400rpm's. Trying to save on fuel. Very satisfy with fuel economy HPDI's rule.
Also, the only problem I had with my boat was the depth finder. I got the blue water package with my boat which had the 520 lorance gps/sonar. They mounted the transducer through the hull. The depth finder did not work. My dealer said they had a few problems with that mounting. So they put another tranducer on the stern water line. WOrks great. Just FYI. Love my 2220 fisherman w/ Z200 25".
