2420/300 h.p.di. prop setup

Postby BlazinJim300 » Sun May 11, 2008 10:25 pm

I'm currently running a 23-m at 5500 rpms at 56 m.p.h. loaded with fuel and 3 people. I tried a 21 pitch Quicksilver 3 blade yesterday with the same load and it turned 5800 rpms and ran 56 m.p.h. again. Speeds are on GPS. Could not get any more out of it. Is that all i should expect out of that setup? I would like more if its there but if not i can live with it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a 250 - 4 str Yamaha with 21" Merc Revolution prop. Turns 6000 in the cool weather--5800 in the heat. Runs 52 to 54 with 3 people, half fuel and fishing gear.Comes out of the hole as easy as any boat I ever had. Would like to try a 23, but local prop man says 4-strs react to props different than 2-strs and it is very easy to overload a 4-str. Good luck and keep us posted.

i cannot say enough good about the performance of the mercury tempest and trophy lines of props. i am now running a 26p tempest plus
loaded (3 people - full tank - poles, gear - 101# 36v trolling motor) 5300rpm = 61mph gps
un loaded ( 1 person - 1/2 - no poles or gear - no trollling motor - batteries were still on board ) 5800rpm = 66mph gps
i know i still have alot of slip but that is as good as it will get without trim tabs. that will be next!

Sounds like you got that thing dialed in good. I was told the Quicksilver Torrent prop I have is the same as a Tempest, anyone else hear that or do I need to get a hold of Tempest?

that could be true, mercury has a habit of making one part or lube and giving them different names sold as the quicksilver line. sorta like there aftermarket name.
