Mercury Propellers vs. Yamaha ??

Postby rorgero » Thu May 22, 2008 9:54 pm

I've been hearing alot of talk of the tempest plus propellers... Is anyone running a Mercury Enertia prop?If you are using the Enertia, what kind of numbers are you getting and how would you rate it to a tempest plus? I'm currently running a Yamaha Reliance seriors 13.75 dia 21P on a HPDI Z200/ 2220 fisherman. I'd like to see if I could get better performance with the tempest or Enertia prop.
I've seen that some dealer have a demo program on propellers. Has anyone taken advantage of these programs? It would be great to try a prop before spending $500 to $700 dollar on one.

Yamaha and Mercury have engine performance sites to rate the different engine and propellers on different hull.It would be great if Blazer would do the same by posting the different model hulls performances so that customer could see the numbers before they purchase the boat. I haven't seen Blazer hulls on either site...Just a suggestions. :?:

Any help would be great. Thanks

i myself have not ran an enertia prop. i believe they are a thinner blade prop with extremely high rake. i believe they are used in alot of offshore applications. i do love my tempest+ - the tempest is made for heavy bass boats and bay boats, it also has a little more diameter for higher engine heights. also very high rake and larger cupping.

mercury makes a far superior prop than yamaha, too me.......

most dealers usually will let you run several pitches after you buy a certain brand and type from them.
what are your numbers @ WOT now?

WOT is about 5400 to 5600 rpm. With a full tank of fuel and gear running 54 to 56 mph gps. I'm currently running a 13 3/4 dia. wheel. Wondering if the Z200 HPDI can turn a 14 5/8 dia. propeller ?

i would try to run a tempest+ in a 14 5/8 x 21p and see the drastic change in your numbers. i went from a yamaha 25m to a tempest+ 26p and reduced my prop slip by 4%
i would think your engine would have alot better hole shot with a larger diameter prop.

I see most of you talking of 3 blade props. have ya'll tried any 4 blades??? I'm running a 4 blade 15 inch diameter 21 pitch powertech prop on my 2220 pro w/ 300 hpdi vmax and is the best performing prop out of all the 3 blades i have tried including the tempest prop. loaded down w/ fuel 4 people and gear i run 60 mph @ 5800... I have been told by boat dealers that bay boats should run 4 blade props...

the only 4 blade i ran was a trophy + / ran like a bat out of hell out of the hole. killed my top end by 5 mph.
i have also heard mixed things about running our 300 hpdi's over 5600 wot, what range did your dealer want you to run in?
5800 rpm loaded seems a little much, huh! when i am loaded it is hard for me to hit 5300-5400 rpm. still running in the low sixties.
