I have a 2170 with a f-150 2006 4 stroke yammie. This past weekend
I hit something submerged below the surface. It broke off part of the
cavitation plate on the port side. Fortunately it did not do any serious
damage. A local prop shop does this kind of work. First they have to find
a used lower unit casing & go from there.

One thing the owner mentioned was my prop got nicked up & needed to
be re-worked. He also asked what rpm's it turned wide open & trimmed up.
When I told him 5100 he asked if I meant 6100. I have a 19 inch pitch.
He said that motor for optimum performance should turn 5800-6100 rpm's
6100 being the ideal number with the normal load. The local yamaha
mechanic agreed. So I want to know what size prop you are running
on your 2170 or any of the 22 footers.

The number you are getting from a 19 pitch prop does seem pretty low, for that size boat and motor setup. Just remember "Drop pitch and RPMs goes up". So if you go to a higher pitch your RPM should/will go down. I am running a Rev 4 (4 Blade) 21p, WOT is 6000-6100, my setup 2420 Pro F250 Yammie. I am thinking about going up in pitch (23p) to lower the RPMs. Talk with your local Prop Shop about testing a few different Props to find the correct setup for your rig. Good Luck

i have heard of a few people with a setup close to yours running 17 pitch 4 blade ofx with better performance.

I spoke to my Dealer as well as to Blazer Bay. Kelly asked Keith what size prop
they send out the package that I have, and she said it was a 19 inch yamaha
prop. I don't know if it was the reliance/painted ss/saltwater series. Anyway
I checked the local blazer dealer who was not in selling Blazer when I purchased
mine, and found most of the blazers he had were propped out with a 13 3/4 x 19.
I think they may have been reliance.

When I questioned my Dealer about the rpm's he said he intentionally went that
low because the prop size did well in hole shot & midrange. Now he put a michigan
avenger on my boat. He did say that the best prop he found for that boat was the
painted ss yamaha 19 inch prop. He quit propping it out because his customers
didn't like the painted prop, They preferred the shiny prop. I wish it would have been
propped out with a yamaha. Its 4yrs old at this point. Again I never had any problems
with this prop.
