prop pitch

if there is anyone on the forum that has the same hull & engine set-up as me, i would like to know what pitch, size, and brand prop they are using. with some #'s

I've tried several props. The best i found is a Power tech 4 blade, 15 inch diameter x 21 pitch. It is the best all around prop. I've tried 23 pitch 3blade tempest,slow hole shot,rpms 5400. 21 pitch 3 blade mirage, decent hole shot,rpms 6100,top speed 60. 24 pitch x 13 3/4 diameter, decent hole shot, 6200 rpms. 4 blade 21 pitch x 15 diameter Lifter drag mc prop, decent hole shot,rpms 5900,top speed 58. After trying all these props i'm most pleased with the Power tech especially with a load. Most of the props were tested with a load. Hope this helps.... i have tried the yamaha standard saltwater series in 23 pitch 15" running 58.4mph @ 6400 rpm. when i bought my boat from a individual it had the 25 pitch 15" also yamaha saltwater series it would then run 64.7 mph @ 5400 rpm. i had a local shop balance my prop out, they had to pitch it down to a 24 to get it true. now i run 60.8 @ 5500 rpm. sorta sucks to loose that much and still not gain rpms. pretty weird to me! i am now looking at different brands. i have heard good things about yamaha v-max props from bass folks. i do not have any problem with hole shot period so i think the 3 blade will give me more top end than the 4 blade. i am taking out the analog crap and putting in yamaha digitals so i can get some accurate tach readings. i think the analogs may not be telling the exact truth. pretty damn hard reading the tach and gps while standing up at 60mph

Something doesn't sound right. Before you had the prop balanced you had 11% prop slip and now you have 14% prop slip.
I ran the numbers you provided using 1.75 gear ratio on your 300 that Yamaha has listed on their website.

We have the same boat and motor combo and we run a Powertech OFX 19 4 blade ported 3/8". With full fuel and ice we get 5800RPM's and run 54MPH with a K-Top on the boat. As far as holeshot you need to make sure everyone on the boat knows your going to get on it because it will throw you out of the back if your not holding on. Now we have a 6" jackplate and trim tabs on the boat and it will get up in 14" soft bottom and 16" of water with a sand bottom jacked all the way up with no blow out. She'll run alot shallower than she draft's, never stopped to see what the depht was but I can tell you under a foot for a short distance.

the cat @ the shop i used told me my loss could have been from them having to cut it down to get the rough edges off the blade. which really doesn't make any sense to me. i got the impression that i was being blown off. i did not change anything else on the boat, if anything i probably had less fuel and gear. this is really the reason i bought the yamaha gauges, i feel my analog tach might be off now from before due to droping in pitch and not really increasing rpm. my dealer said it isn't uncommon for it to loose calibration.

I went through the same thing on my current boat. The dealer had the tach on the wrong setting so my RPMs were way off.
I would verify that your tach is working properly before you spend additional money on props.
