Jack Plates sizes

Can anyone give me advice on what size jackplate to install on my 2220 RE. I have a 150-4stroke. I have read that a 10" is good, but then some say go to a 12" inch if possible to get the motor back a little farther..? Not sure what to do, or what anyone else's experience is.

Also would like to know whether it makes any difference where the motor cables exit the hull. Mine come out thru a boot mounted on the side wall of the well. Some I have seen exit the flat part of the hull next to the back storage hatch, but are enclosed in a flexible gray tube. I am trying to keep water from coming in to the storage area where the batteries are mounted and having the cables come out the side of the well lets water pour in if you go fast enough in reverse and if the waves are a little high.

Anybody else's ideas and experience would be appreciated. huntr52 :D
