Best place to place shoot-thru hull transducer

I own a 2000 202 pro-v. I am adding a HDS-5 sonar/gps. I purchased a shoot thru hull transducer. Do I need to cut away any of the inside hull? OR can I just mount the transducer a few inces from the factory transducer? Thank you for any help.
