How to read the fuel guage?

How to read the fuel gauge?
In what position is the fuel gauge accurate, on step or at a dead still. I'm getting 2 different readings, they're close at least. On step shows to be more to full. At a dead still it's showing better than a half tank, which just keeping up with it in my head should be about right.
It's a 2170 with Yam digital gauges and a Yam 150 TXR

ours stopped working as soon as we used the boat.We bought it new in so Cal from a dealer and well we love the boat but the fuel gauge sucks.We have a 2009 BB 18,sweet boat.

The dealer didn't fix it?

OHHHH the dealer? Big problems there..I wont go into that.We have the boat serviced by another local guy and he does a great job. Again we love the skiff,fish it very hard since day one.We have traveled 70+ miles uphill one way in a tourny and never gave it a second thought.
