The Joys of Saltwater and Blazer Bay

Bought my 2170 new March of 2010. A year later i want to know where these rust stains are coming from underneath the handrail. I freshwater wash the boat down after every trip and it's garage kept. Anybody know what's the deal?

Get use to it we have stains like that every where we have something bolted to the boat.

There's got to be a carbon steel nut welded into the stainless in there, I don't know. I know it irratates me to see rust stains.

I would think it is merely the grade of stainless used. Some grades will surface rust, but it does not etch the metal. Most likely from China.

That sounds like a good idea! I looked at the new 2170 for 2012 while I was at the N.O. boat show. I noticed that they started using a different handrail from before. The new one have like a flange or flat footing welded onto the bottom. Ran into Lonnie, he said they were using a new fabricator.
I might try loading up the bolt holes like you said with some good quality silicone.

ospho will make it look like new. no reason to loose sleep. wipe or spray on, wait till gone and rinse. keep away from aluminum.
