Fuel Gauge Off and On problem

There must be an intermittent electrical problem or something else. The gauge reads for a few seconds then goes to empty and stays there while I'm running the boat. It's a 2004 model 2420 so if anyone knows what kind of problem it could be... please weigh in. I thought maybe it could be a float sticking in the tank, but I don't even know if that is a possibility. Does anyone know what kind of job it would be to open up the tank for a sensor replacement? Thanks for any help

Mine did that and it was the sending unit. Mine was accessable via the deckplate. remove 4 screws........pull the old unit out and replace. Took about 30 min.

Check the connection above the sending unit. Mine was loose.
